What is it?
The Bartholin's glands are located on the vulva at the vaginal opening.
The main purpose of the glands is to create fluid that travels down ducts (passages) to lubricate the vagina and the vulva. If the opening of the ducts becomes blocked off, the mucus (fluid) that has been created by the glands will build up and create a cyst (mass).
The cysts usually don't cause any pain or any other symptoms, and typically found during routine pelvic examinations, but in some cases can cause pain and make the vulva appear misshapen.
